By Innocencia Mukwepere I taught you how to pray To have faith To yield strength Yet you stumble  In a slightest rumble Worrying and crying  Instead of bowing  For grace You lack divine And vengeance you sow Yearning for plenty I told you to ask But you always demand When it delays You seek the sorcery’s help Is patience that hard to cope I taught you how to love To bring peace To end hatred But your are deaf Its been decades Yet still selfish Even loyalty is a difficult task My children Infidelity is now your virtue Staining sacred bonds Caring less about my will Juggling the gifts of life Without conscious Running a wrecked race Only for the trophy Full of treachery I taught you how to read To learn from the scriptures To practice its course Rather you chose the world Ignoring me calling Saying I don’t exist Not even a second to know me For how long will you remain stubborn You stand in confidence Claiming my soil as your own Forgetting you are just guests Waiting to de...

JUST A CURSE

By Innocencia Mukwepere Our ancestors have gone through it And so, it is our turn We cannot talk about it Rather cry for ourselves In caves of fear Awaiting our only hope The lineage is fading With hymns of farewell Wreaths circled around Honouring our loved ones Yet to come is the time  Will be next Neither will it stop nor rest Young and old it takes Eager to unleash its wrath For mercy it doesn’t show Not long will it desert us Leaving our mother bare To it, status doesn’t matter  For every home is a vigil place  The poor, the rich Souls it will feast When asked why They say, It is just a curse to destroy
